春望 (唐·杜甫)
國(guó)破山河在，城春草木深。感時(shí)花濺淚，恨別鳥(niǎo)驚心。
烽火連三月，家書抵萬(wàn)金。白頭搔更短，渾欲不勝簪。
Spring View
On war-torn land streams flow and mountains stand;
In vernal town grass and weeds are overgrown.
Grieved over the years, flowers make us shed tears;
Hating to part, hearing birds breaks our heart.
The beacon fire has gone higher and higher;
Words from household are worth their weight in gold.
I cannot bear to scratch my grizzled hair;
It grows too thin to hold a light hairpin.
(Translated by Xu Yuanchong)Poet Du Fu (712-770) wrote this poem in springtime. The poem shows his love for his motherland (祖國(guó)) and how he missed his family.
杜甫在春天寫下這首詩(shī)。這首詩(shī)顯示了他對(duì)祖國(guó)的愛(ài)，以及對(duì)家人的想念。
The birds were singing freely (自由地), while the poet lost his freedom. He was alone without any relatives or friends. As the war was going on, it was hard to receive letters from family members. The letters were as valuable as gold.
鳥(niǎo)兒在自由地歌唱，但此時(shí)的杜甫失去了自由——他孤身一人，沒(méi)有親戚朋友。由于戰(zhàn)爭(zhēng)很難收到家人的來(lái)信，使得這些家書像金子一樣珍貴。
詩(shī)歌翻譯追求“音美”，表現(xiàn)之一就是押韻。在本詩(shī)翻譯中，第二句押韻，grieved和hating引導(dǎo)的從句組成兩個(gè)工整的押尾韻years和tears, part和heart。
在翻譯“烽火連三月”時(shí)，許淵沖先生用has gone higher and higher來(lái)表示，非常巧妙。關(guān)于“三月”的理解歷來(lái)有多種解釋，其中一種是說(shuō)“三”是概數(shù)詞，形容時(shí)間長(zhǎng)。許先生采用了這種解釋，沒(méi)有說(shuō)具體的幾個(gè)月，只突出戰(zhàn)爭(zhēng)持續(xù)時(shí)間長(zhǎng)。
