About 500 years ago in China, there was a traveler even cooler than Bear. He spent 30 years traveling across China. He was Xu Xiake. 你可能聽說過貝爾·格里爾斯——也就是我們常說的“貝爾”——一位英國著名的冒險(xiǎn)家。但你知道嗎？大約500年前的中國，有一個(gè)比貝爾還酷的旅行者。他花了30年的時(shí)間周游中國——他就是徐霞客。 Xu Xiake was born in Jiangsu province. When he was a child, Xu enjoyed reading books about Chinese mountains and rivers. He decided to see them when he grew up. 徐霞客是一個(gè)江蘇人，當(dāng)他還是個(gè)孩子的時(shí)候，他就喜歡讀關(guān)于中國大好山河的書。他決定長大后去親自看看它們。 At that time, many kids were studying hard to become officials. But Xu’s father never forced (強(qiáng)迫) him to take exams. Instead, he encouraged his son to go out and discover the world. Xu began his journey when he was about 20. Before he left, his mother made him a traveling hat to encourage him to travel. 那個(gè)時(shí)候，很多孩子都在努力學(xué)習(xí)。但徐霞客的父親沒有強(qiáng)迫他參加考試。相反，他鼓勵(lì)兒子走出去，去探索這個(gè)世界。于是，徐霞客在20歲左右開始了他的旅程。在他出發(fā)之前，他的母親給他做了一頂旅行帽，給予了他鼓勵(lì)。
Where did he go? 徐霞客都去了哪? Xu traveled to 21 provinces and over 100 cities in China. He climbed thousands of mountains and explored over 350 caves. 徐霞客去過中國21個(gè)省，100多個(gè)城市。他攀登了數(shù)千座山，探索了350多個(gè)洞穴。 Xu was the first person to find the highest peak (山峰) of Huangshan Mountain (黃山). He was also the first to find lots of karst caves (喀斯特溶洞). What’s more, he discovered the Yangtze River’s headwater (源頭). 他還是第一個(gè)找到黃山最高峰的人。他也是第一個(gè)發(fā)現(xiàn)大量喀斯特溶洞的人。更重要的是，他找到了長江源頭。 Xu’s travel notes 徐霞客的“旅行日記” Xu kept a diary while traveling. The Travel Diary of Xu Xiake (《徐霞客游記》) is still popular today. 徐霞客在旅行中堅(jiān)持寫日記，《徐霞客游記》今天仍然十分受歡迎。
