A strutted frame provides bearing support and closely controls concentricity between rotor and stator parts. The inner hub of the frame is an intricate casting containing the forward journal bearing. The forward journal bearing can be replaced without removing the rotor. The hub is joined to the outer frame case via seven forged struts through the exhaust diffuser. These structural components are protected from the hot exhaust gases by an aerodynamically contoured exhaust fairing around each strut. Glass fiber insulation is placed between the inner diffuser and the bearing case to reduce heat transfer to the lubricating oil.
